RHA passes revised anti-smoking resolution

The Residence Halls Association, the student government for University residence halls, passed a resolution asking University Housing to post signs near all entrances that say smoking is not allowed within 15 feet of the building, and several other measures. For the full text of the resolution, please see the attachment.

Robert Pinsky to come to campus

Former Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky will be on campus this week to do a reading, and give a lecture.
The reading will be held on Tuesday March 14 in Palmer Commons Ballroom at 5 p.m., which is located at 100 Wasthenaw Ave.
Pinsky will also give a lecture this Thursday at the Michigan League Ballroom at 7:30 p.m.

Dominos Pizza

David Brandon, CEO of Dominos Pizza and regent of the University, has a lot to be pleased about. The pizza giant’s first full year as a publicly held company was highly profitable. The company reported a 47.14% increase in share value from 2005. The stock emerged last february at about $17 a share, and since then has grown to $26 a share, as of Feb. 21, 2006. In 2005, the company sold nearly $5 billion dollars worth of pizza worldwide.

Football statue returned

Last Wednesday (1/25) police received an anonymous tip about the whereabouts of a giant football statue, which was stolen from State Street in front of Buffalo Wild Wings. Ann Arbor police found the statue at the corner of Arbor and Oakland streets.

Will Washtenaw go wireless?

The city is considering developing a wireless network that would serve all of Washtenaw County, although they claim that it will not require public funds, or private grants. The resolution has been tabled and should be discussed in upcoming meetings. Madison has a similar network in place, and New York City has had wireless internet available in public parks since 2001. Do you think Ann Arbor needs omnipresent wireless internet access?
